Don Braden the Composer
Don Braden has tremendous skill and experience as a composer and arranger. Besides having written extensively for his thirteen CDs, he has composed and or arranged music for a number of other CDs, concerts, television and film. He spent four years as staff composer for the CBS sitcom "Cosby", and co-composed the theme songs to the Nickelodeon shows "Little Bill" and "Fatherhood". He's also written for the independent films "65-C Codman Park", "Lena's Dreams" and the Mirimax Film "Ed's Next Move".
His compositional portfolio consists of over 100 pieces, for various jazz ensembles including trios, quartets, quintets, sextet, octet (over a dozen arrangements), big band (10 charts), and three compositions for full symphonic orchestra. He has also completed a number of compositions in the Funk, R&B and "Smooth Jazz" styles.
In 2001, Don Braden was awarded the New Works Grant from the Doris Duke Foundation, administered by Chamber Music America. He created "The Soaring Spirit", a six-part suite for Jazz Octet based upon poetry.
